Zippo does have a lifetime guarantee, you could get it fixed if you wanted too

I was going to say this as well. Not sure if it would ruin the value of it or not, but you can send it back to them and, for free, they will replace all of the innards of the zippo and mail it back to you. Takes about 8-10 weeks.

I found a website that u can date them and found one on ebay that's looks pretty close to it and its sayin 50s. Which would be the right time fram for this spot.

hey, that was almost a non issue, 'required' item during WW-II, I Lost mine in the Solomons in 1942. How did it get to the states before I did?? Our motto was ->"Golden Gate in 1948."

Almost any liquid that was flameable was used successfully in them.

ive found quite a few zippos, i would change out the good parts, clean em up and use them again, standard size guts fit into any standard size case. yard sales are pretty good if you know what to look for, used rusted zippos can be found in the $5 range.
