I don't know much, but I have heard that breaking a find like this out of its clump is a "No, No"... I'd keep them AS IS and have them looked at by maybe a grading company.... It would be nice if you knew what ship they may have been in at that location... Also could be more out deeper in the water or in that area... Wow, this is insane... I'll vote banner !! You have some work ahead of you and possible sunken ship wreak filled with Gold Doubloons !! Amazing !!

keep @ it and HH !!

Since I'm pretty new to all this - and this is like my sixth outing (!!!)

what is a grading company and how do i find one??

thanks!!

Obviously spanish milled coins, and lots of them. Relax, they aren't going anywhere. Go back to that site, the conditions that brought those there, may have brought more and that will take your mind off the "wad".

2 schools of thought; leave them as is for the "specimen" value, electolysis them as a whole to get them to bare, shiny silver...my opinion, leave them.
Too cool, what ever you decide...your coins!

A grading company such as PCGS or NGC are companies that grade coins by numismatic value on a scale from 0-70... You can search for them online ! They will evaluate your coins and possibly clean them up and put them in a protective sleeves... Don't just jump into the first thing you see or here too... Take your time here, do lots of research and wait for other replies... Find out what the best coarse of action is, take it to a coin grading company or send it to a museum ?? Who knows, I'd wait to hear more from other users.. Hopefully someone who has more experience with this will know what to do... Whatever you do, don't try and clean or break them up or use electrolysis.. Until you have at least talked to one grading company for a coarse of action.... Best of luck can't wait to see the results !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

Even though I can't see what they are individually it's got my vote for a Banner find. Congrats on the lump of special coral, hopefully somebody will direct you in the right direction regarding the preservation, oh how tempting it would be just to break it open completely to see the coins.

Some more on the grading companies that you should know... :tongue3: You have real reputable grading companies like PCGS and some not so good ones or 2nd hand companies such as SGS... MAKE SURE, you talk to the reputable companies.... Stay away from the 2nd hand companies... :icon_thumleft: knew this year was going to be amazing for people, now the posts are proving it.... :hello2: Excellent find, I'm very excited !! You must be tickled to death.... Like where you can't breath your laughing so hard.. :laughing7:

Keep @ it and HH !! :headbang:
