I think i will keep it until I can find out a way to clean it up properly. Although it may not be a meteorite it is still a lump that I found in the ground :)

Welcome to the great addiction, if you want an easy way to clean up your iron pieces get a tub with a lid that you can put 2 gallons of apple cider vinigar in and when you get home just drop in the peices you want to have a better look at. After a few weeks take them out and knock off the loose rust and drop them back in. Keep going with it untill you are happy. The vinigar will remove all rust eventually but you will have to change it out every now and then.
Don't forget to smile when asking for permission as well, it goes along way.

Thanks for the cleaning tip. Where is the best place to pick up some apple cider vinegar in the uk? around 1ltr. Is this the best way to clean up coins also?
