It seems, that sometimes it IS better to be lucky than good. After too many glasses of tea I decided to stop the truck on my dirt road to, well you know. When I opened the door, right where I parked, staring up at me was Mr. Lincoln and Mr. Jefferson (hence the blackened patina). So I pulled the truck up and went to looking. Saw the 35 Merc. about a foot away. Got out the detector and uncovered the rest which were right under the penny and nickel. In all I ended up with: Standing Liberty quarter (no date), Washington quarter 1942 S, 35 Merc., 44 D Merc., 1914 Buffalo, 1943 S Jefferson, and a 1944 Wheat.

Thanks for looking

Wife's grandma has picked up about 20 coins dating from late 1800 to teens on a gravel road by her house. She finds them when she walks after a rain

NICE!!........7 coin spill with 5 of them silver.....the 1943-S War Nickel is also 35% silver......and based on condition.....looks like they were dropped in the 1945 to maybe 1948 time frame.

Happy Hunting, Everyone

Hi Bill, Yea ,I'm thinking they were dropped sometime before WWII had ended. I have where two RR Bridges were located, here on my property. Soldiers were stationed off and on since 1916 to guard against them being attacked and blown up. The road I found them on would have been the road leading off the old highway towards the bridges. My guess is they spilt while changing a flat as we tend to ruin a lot of tires out here in rural West Texas.

Yea, No skill involved in this find, just pure luck. The sad thing is, I, along with countless other people have been driving over these coins for a long time. I am surprised they weren't chewed up more than they were from the rocks in the road.

Thanks for looking.

:icon_thumright: I'd actually frame those coins exactly as you have arranged them in your first photo, then put them on the bathroom wall. But then I'm a clown. Also a major tea drinker & when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. CONGRATS on your surprise coin spill, wow! HH Andi
