22 Head stamp help

This was found in the flower bed today 22 short head stamp ( US ) i know it is US Cartridge Co ,, just never seen a 22 short before , trying to find about year it was made, so my search takes me between 1870-1880 but not sure if that is correct ,, thanks

.22 shorts are still made today. Until fairly recently most .22 rifles manufactured normally were capable of firing .22 long rifle or .22 short. When I was a kid a box of .22 shorts was 50 cents and .22 longs were a buck.

I know they are still made ,, i have never seen this head stamp on a 22 before
