I can't believe what just happened today

A year ago last May when I was detecting a local 1960's park a few blocks from home I found the bottom portion of
a sterling silver "matchsafe" that had an engraved initial on one side and an engraved date of 1901 on the other.

The only thing that was missing was the "cap" portion of the matchsafe.

Tonight, after dinner, I detected this same park with one of my best friends and after detecting about 20 minutes, he
yelled out: "Hey Mark, I have something for you". When I went over to see what he had found I couldn't believe my
eyes. . . he had found the missing top to my matchsafe about 30 yards from where I found the bottom portion last year.

Stunning, Beautiful! :notworthy: :occasion18: :icon_thumright: And excellent that you and your friend returned to detect that area once more -- WOW! For sure, this fancy engraved case is one of the best items I've seen on t-net since I joined. And in lovely condition also! Andi

That's by far the nicest match safe I've ever seen posted! Congrats on recovering both pieces!

Great stuff! Have that puppy repaired by a jeweler and you'll have a nice little heirloom there.

Nice of your friend not to charge you ten bucks to get the other piece of it. :D

If that isn't enough reason to keep hunting a site, I don't know what is! Congrats.

If I would have found the top I would have been yelling "give me the bottom to match safe".

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
This is the first time something like this has ever happened to me.

I've read threads here on TNet about matching relic parts being found weeks later and have always thought
that was the coolest thing. . . especially if it was something really special.

I'm thinking about paying that park a visit after dinner tonight. . . who knows what will turn up next.

Thats wonderful. It's such a beautiful object, that its sad to have a part missing. With the missing piece it is exquisite.
