I just found a new wooded site to explore with some good potential. I was working in a light drizzle so I had a protective ziplock bag over my Ace250 control box.

My first big find was a hillside Wheat Cent Spill that produced 18 Wheat Cents ranging in age from 1924 to 1958. Elsewhere I unearthed a nice silver plated Victorian coin purse. Unfortunately it was devoid of coins but they have to be out there somewhere! The broken bottle is from Danbury, Connectictut.

I have heard suggestions that this may have been a cigarette holder or even visitation card holder.
Whatever it is, it looks like it was designed to be worn with chain, perhaps around the neck?

That could be a necklace cigarette case too... Either way, I like it.

That looks to be a site with great potential. I'm sure you'll have more to show us.

Some silver has to be there some where. What's the history of the site?

My My Wildcat1750, what else could be lurking out there? We people are odd animals as we loose or throw out some valuable things. Keep at it and I hope your machine sings the silver song!....................63bkpkr

It is a steep wooded area with ravines, ridges and cliffs. It is said that Indian artifacts have been found near its rock shelters and there has been a long history of hunting, camping, picnicking and hiking. It is surrounded by old residential areas. Originally privately owned, it became a Town Park but I am not sure when.

Hey Wildcat,

Nice finds, sir. I would agree with whoever is suggesting this is a calling card case. What are it's dimensions?

Sterling Silver Belle Epoque Engraved Calling Card Case/Purse

I measure it to be roughly 2 1/2" x 3 1/4".

I found a coin purse similar to this about thirty years ago,
the one I found had a chain about five inches long with a finger band in the center of it.
