Got out yesterday with fellow relic hunter and great friend Harvey. We decided to brave the high 90's with high humidity to test out a new field that the wheat just got cut in that held a lot of Civil War action in 1864. The field held the 6th Corps Army of the Potmac. So, we headed out into the brown stalks and started working a knoll of cedar trees. After walking for about 80 yards with no signals, I finally got a 11-10 on the E-Trac at 6" and pulled two small brass fobs ???. They looked nice and they looked about right for the time period we were searching for, but not what I was actually after lol. No sooner than I took one step I got a solid 11-08 and I thought I had found another one or some junky can slaw. I dug my plug and got the pin pointer out and to my eyes laid the pretty lady in GOLD. I could not believe my eyes, after 14 years of serious relic hunting all over the east coast I finally found the elusive GOLD. I yelled out to Harvey to come over. I pulled it out of the ground and no date :icon_scratch:? I knew it was still a great and rare find regardless. I sent a picture to my trusty friend Nate and he was super excited and got me the I.D. I needed. It is a LOVERS TOKEN!! Date or no date, I had a smile the rest of the day. I finished off kinda slow due to the high heat but managed a few bullets and some small D buckles. After a couple of hours we headed over to Sgt. Rikers and he was very excited to see this coin and took a picture and sent it in to American Digger Magazine...SWEET! Thank you Ran!

The other pictures (white back ground) are from a local hunt a week ago. As you can see, I pulled a ton of Clad from this small Civil War camp that has been turned in to a soccer field. I amnaged a few nice keepers; flower button one piece, bullet, 69 cal round ball, thimble, some odds and ends, small brass items, etc... The old Minelab E-Trac has done me well the past few weeks. Happy hunting to all and stay cool! Vist my Youtube page under Wes-N-VA to see the footage of the past few hunts. Thnaks for looking.

That's a kick-butt find, and for most of us, that would be a once-in-a-lifetime find. Good job!

OUT, FREAKING, STANDING WES!
The only gold coins I've ever pulled up have been gold colored Mexican coins. Lol
You've been hunting a long time for that. You deserve it man.

I started hunting 45 years ago. Took a break of nearly 30 years but still over 15 years of hunting and a gold coin is the main thing that has alluded me. Great find Wes, congratulations.

Great stuff!!! 6th Corps Army of the Potomac was in Stafford,Virginia from 1862-1863 from the map below! part of the 6th Corps regiment camped in Stafford right off Route 218 and near Ringgold Road in Stafford and is now a Subdivision as of about 2002 and another part out towards White Oak Church. I have dug in 6th Corps camp in Stafford, before the subdivision was built over it. We use to dig lot of huts back in that camp! D.P. Newton (who owns one of the biggest Civil War Museums in the United States in Stafford,Virginia "The White Oak Museum" www.whiteoakmuseum.com/‎ ) Dug out the 6th Corps and other Army Of The Potomac camps in Stafford in the 70s/80s and also John Sinn a well known, local relic hunter in the community who is probably one of the best! hut diggers.. The artifacts they found from the 6th Corps in Stafford and other Army Of The Potomac camps can be seen at the Museum and there were basement fulls of buckles/plates/id tags/coins,etc etc,etc they dug out of the Army Of Potomac camps in Stafford.. As you can tell from the map the AOP Corps camped in Stafford from 1862-1863, and the relics that were recovered from those camps in the 1970s,80s,90s are unreal. The diggers who dug the Army Of Potomac camps in the early days!! it was unheard of for them not too find at least 2-5 buckles a week and they were digging so many bullets and eagle buttons they just left many behind. Now 2013, the stuff is getting harder too find. I spend lot of time digging where the 1st Corps of the AOP camped in Stafford and I can at least come out with a few 3 ringers and eagle buttons and maybe a breast plate or sny buckle every 6 months or so. Anyway, I would get back there and hunt the hell out of that area and if they built huts i would surely dig them up!!! Army Of The Potomac camps always produce relics and after digging in Army Of The Potomac camps here in Stafford for quite a few years now!! I will say it is a blessing they left "so much" artifacts behind for us too treasure!!
