I found this pice yesterday while on my lunchbreak.. It came from a know colonial period site near my home.. The original homesite was burnt down by the British while chasing Francis Marion back toward Santee Swamp in Clarendon County, SC.. Anyone have an idea what this may be??? It is the size of a quarter.. Should have placed a refernce beside the piece in the pic.. Thanks for any help on idenity of this piece...

Thanks! I'm more into looking for Native American Artifacts, but have ran across alot of Colonial and Civil War period items on my adventures... :) Time to break out my detector and hit some spots..

That is a very neat find, not sure what it is. It looks like there is a lot of gilt left on it too. I would hit that with some aluminum jelly, it would really bring the gilt back to life.
