Silver Soldier's Dog Tag with provenance, Button spill, and more...

I managed to get out to the park this morning for a couple of hours. I wasn't planning on hunting, but I was in the area. I hopped out and hit the ground running. I detected a section I hadn't hit before, close to the street... and dug everything. I won't bore you with my pennies, or the bent spoon.

Refresh to resize my pics...

Here's the good stuff.

Sterling Soldier's Dog Tag (Lt. Col. CHL Sharman... What a life he lived! -- Provenance here: Col CHL Sharman CMG, CBE, ISO (1881-1970))

Old "Canada Post Office" buttons and solo military button spill

"88" Shamrock Token

Little gilted buckle and button

Chinese coin

Gold Plated Ring

Happy hunting!

Bravo Gio,

This is such a great find. What a life, indeed, Lieutenant-Colonel Sharman had. He went from a 17 year old Mountie to Command of the 4th Brigade in the Great War. And you found his sterling ID! Amazing. piece of history, sir.

I realized while reading Sharman's history, thanks for this, Gio, how little I really knew about the history of the war, and the events in the immediate aftermath. I mean I knew about Ypres a little. Sharman was wounded there. I really knew nothing of the Canadian and US contingents sorta fighting with the White Army. Thanks again, I'mo have to do some more reading.

Birmingham mark on the back;

Miller Brothers? Birmingham Makers Marks - M

You also found a great group of other relics that are so dwarfed by this one. How often do y'all dig Lieutenant-Colonel anything?

Banner for the sheer history, so well presented, Gio. Well done!

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the extra information, Patriot. I am going to attempt to hunt down the patriarch of his living family members and return it to him.

Gio, if you are successful in the further hunt for family; please alert the media. They could prove helpful, should you be stymied in your search, unlikely as that may be. This could be a huge Banner for the detecting community at large.

I can see your visage on the cover of Modern Shovel magazine now...

Lol @ visage. I'm not looking for glory, but he has such an amazing service record, if returned... it would look great on the hobby. It may convince a skeptic or two that we're not in this for the money...

I'm sure it will make a wonderful article for the paper as well as some of the major treasure hunting magazines. Congrats again and thanks for making us all look a little better in the hobby!
