looking good I love clean silver. I can't wait to hear all the people saying how your coins should never ever be cleaned, well if they are your coins and you like them looking good then clean away! unless its a key date then I wouldn't clean them.

I must disagree. First of all, there is no "if" in the ownership.

And second, I don't care what "date" they are, if one is so inclined, they can clean them to their hearts content! As long as they know that cleaning will devalue their numismatic value, clean them until they look how you wish! I mean, if you don't want the million dollars, that is entirely up to you.

Good job! I'd rather see a bright shiny silver coin myself!

Silver coins, in my opinion, are beautiful right out of the ground. Other than a light bath in plain water, I have no desire to do anything else to my coins. I've had some rather stubborn copper coins that resisted simply bathing. Though they are not as clean as my silver, they are still beautiful to me. My little silver and copper children. :-)

Mattysee, I don't know what you did to your sliver coins, but they look fabulous.

exactly for the reason you stated above,( because polishing them degrades the value ). the owner is welcome to do with as they wish, but too many times I see coins get polished because they didn't know that it actually degrades the value. does it makes them look pretty and shiny? yes, but as a collector it makes me cringe

Yep, instant cull and filler piece by doing that.

People definitely get their knickers in a twist about this cleaning business - of course anybody is free to do whatever they want to
with their property , but clearly when you take a seated liberty quarter , like this one , and scour it or buff it - you just reduced it to
the value of the metal . I think what really creeps me out -is seeing people dig a coin on a video , and thumb rubbing the dirt on a
silver coin !

I buy tons of dirty Indian Head pennies for under a buck with free shipping, tumble them, then sell them for $3 each on Ebay. Most people don't seem to care that they are cleaned because they look great.

I'm not saying a high value coin wouldn't take a huge hit, I just felt like sharing because it was related.

I really get tired of people who know "all that" telling others' how they should treat their finds. Do we have a responsibility to keep exceptionally rare coins in the best found condition? Sure. But, I saw the dates and knew they weren't especially rare. So, I knew you were cleaning up something for yourself and THAT is your business, and yours alone!

I would disagree on cleaning a very rare coin. But, not because of the so called numismatic value. Rather, I figure to pass that one down for historical purposes. So, I would attempt to keep it as nice as I can without "hurting" how much someone might be able to sell it for, later on.

I have an idea, next time, just tell them about how pretty and pristine your coins look after you gave them a good cleaning and buffing. BUT, by NO means, post ANY pictures of them at all! See how they like them apples! LOL

If I didn't already have one, I'd gladly pay you 30 bucks for that pretty coin!
