The LC with the hole in the center was probably used as a homemade washer. I found a CW token--the size of a small cent--where they unfortunately did the same thing! :BangHead:

That's my oldest large cent to. Bummer there a hole in it. I was reading that they would put a hole in them and hung they on the house for good luck. Another option was it was a slave coin that slaves would have to wear. But who knows.

Nice - but someone using it as a washer isn't cool - I believe someone threw it up in the air and shot a hole through it bad Chad!

Interesting. A large copper is a large copper, with or without a hole. I've heard that story also that they used to nail large cents up in the thresholds of houses when they built them for good luck or to date when the home was built.

Nice digs. I think that is the biggest hole I have ever seen in a Large Cent but I with Texjim. It adds character.

It read like a large cent when I dug it like a washer and I almost discard it glad I cleaned it up.

Very interesting , you will notice upon closer inspection of the date , that it is something other than 1810 - as the "Classic Head "
of 1808 - 1814 does not have the extended hair curl below the neckline - clearly in evidence on your coin . Nice finds !

Nice finds. Looks like a matron head to me. Like argentium said the curl at the bottom. Also the stars across the top and the bun in her hair are signs of a later date than 1810.
