We took a chance today on a field we have hardly touched. It had been recently disced & looked inviting. We started like we start all new land; spread out 2 widths apart & doing lengths of the shortest side until... Cru'dad hit a Viking Mount - forget that juicy-nectar it was GRID ON!
2 hours into the grid nothing else of note popped up so we took a drink break & then tried another next door field. Very quickly we decided this field was no good & came back to the original. Almost immediately we wandered onto some Roman Coins - Grid on again.

After 5 hours our haul was:

9 Scrappies
2 debased Roman silvers8-)
Counterstamped blank sixpence
Pan Weight
Tudor Leather Mount
Tudor Clothes Fastener (broken)
Tudor Button
17/18th C Pair of Compasses/Dividers (very cool, my first of these!)8-)
Very Rare Viking Urnes Style Mount -Serpentine body & Dragons Head - I believe the function of these is unknown.
Anglo-Scandinavian / Viking 'Urnes' Mount 025953

Crusader, are you running out of space in your house to store all your finds? You must have boxes and buckets of relics everywhere! :laughing7:

"could" your dividers be tweezers ? just my thought.

Good field, bad field you still ended up with lots of targets, and keepers.

Do you ever get Viking coins ?

Not easy to picture but the ball joint at the top allowing it to open wide, so it is a compass.

I've only ever had 2 Viking Coins.
