Hello All,
We had a killer day in the field today. Ended up with three great silvers, the best of which was Shanegalang's find of a 1798 Two Reales. This takes us to 23 Spanish Silvers for 2013. I think we'll have a shot at 30 for the year, but my guess will 28, since they are not plowing a couple of key fields this year.
We started out on a field that we thought that they were plowing, and had a hunch there, and that's where I dug the seated dime, but we had to change locations due to the cane trucks and tractors. So to get there and dig a nice coin so quickly means that the field has some real potential for later.
The heat was only 95 instead of the usual 105 or so, but it got to us by the end of the hunt. At any rate, enjoy the photos and the video below.
Here's Shane's killer 1798 2 Reales. Any time a 2 Reales comes up is a day for celebration. He and I have both recovered a total of four 2 Reales since last January.
Here's my plow-dinged 1840-O Seated Dime. I was stoked to find this one, because now I have a complete set of seated coins dug in 2013: seated half dimes, a seated dime, a seated quarter, and a seated half dollar.
And here's my worn 1781 half real. Not a date we had dug this year so far. I also got some flat buttons, a mystery brass "leg," a barrel tap piece, musketballs, and a shoe buckle piece.
Here's the video:
Cheers,
Buck
