went back to spot I got gold and silver at yesterday
real small area - probably 40 yrds by 20yrds that was producing the older stuff
don't know why - it was sanded in like the rest around , but I slowed to a crawl and in all metal mode -went for the
whispers again - was slow going at first - started getting deep clads
finally the tide was out and I got into the hot spot - finally got a silver quarter (1936)- then a buffalo - then a silver dime
started to grid - got a really faint signal - dug close to 2 feet down and pulled a 1958 class ring - it was encrusted when I
pulled it out
3 feet away - got another faint target and found emerald gold ring down deep
another few feet I got small silver ring
sun was going down - turned to head out - got a faint signal - scooped twice
looked in the scooped and saw blackened dime - I thought it might be silver - gave it a wipe
and saw "ONE DIME" - but knew it was not a Barber - flipped it over and saw Lady Liberty staring at me - 1857
big surprise ! nice way to end the day
ended up with 3 sil. roos. - and had a indian head in the mix too

OH BOY ! that's a beaauty ! Dark green NICE !

OK so "back home from Vaca." Because the beaches around here are not so rich mainly because the water too cold, were these finds not from new england ? I certainly don't need any exact info, I guess just curious if your home beaches are that much better than here...not so far away.

was supposed to go to Jamaica - those plans fell thru - So hit a few New England saltwater beaches (will try and head to warmer waters in Nov. maybe)
I have all kinds of wet suit combinations depending on the water temps
I wear a wet suit jacket and bathing suit right now - will be adding farmer john under it soon
I have a 2 piece 7mm suit for winter time with 7mm gloves and boots - I get tired before i get cold in the winter waters

Kudos! :icon_thumleft: Beautiful collection of finds! Which detector? Even for salt I don't see as much corrosion on your silver as I'd expect to see from beaches down here in south Cal. Wondering if there is a lot of black stinky clay in your beach sand down deep? That would give the reducing conditions needed to preserve the silver from the salt.

The sands here were very rocky - and there was no mussels or clams really -which seem to affect silver as well as other coins
a few miles away - the silver comes out caked and you need electroysis to get it off -
-if you see my other recent post - this spot -which was an hour away
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/374634-big-silver-small-silver.html
the half dollar was caked - but simple rub of with my fingers and it broke off - same with the military ring(whic came up a big ball of crust)
yet dime with crust will take some work
Ive had some silver coins come out 3 times there actual size with caked on material
just depends on the soil
