if it's sterling, it's most likely WW2 era

I found the same one a while back. Mine was marked sterling on the back.

It's not marked sterling but looks like it. With a light rub it shines up like silver does. It was about 4" deep and hit just like a quarter.It came out looking just like it does in picture. Where it was found the people have lived there almost 50yrs and had no clue how it may have ended up there.

The pin or pins are broken off but it looks like it had the one pin that looks like a safety pin, not the two dam it pins.

They started switching over to the "clutch back" pins after 1942, at least for collar disks, I'm not sure about other badges. That would put your badge in the WW2 or earlier range though when they were still using the single pin.
