Rare or not, I think its a great find. We just don't find those in our neck of the woods to often.

Here is what I found about your coin :

1787 Connecticut Copper (cent)
Stacks 5/15/2009, Lot 1433
Miller 31.2-r.3. Rarity-1. Draped Bust Left. VF-25.144.4 gns.

Authorized by contract from the State of Connecticut in 1785. Probably struck under a subcontract by Samuel Broome and Jeremiah Platt, former New York merchants.

That is one nice ground found copper, errr, make that water found copper. :) Amazing how the water preserved the copper so well, but so many of your relics are great so why not a state copper.

I am 99% sure the variety is 1787 Maris 33.2-Z.5 variety, the key to ID was , first all the number cinquefoils must match along with colons and dots/periods, if any missing than keep looking, I kept looking and all features described in the Whitman book match for the 33.2-Z.5, diagnostic for the reverse are the dentils that without a doubt match the example description and photo in the Whitman book.

That's a nice Connecticut copper. I would keep it separate from the KGs!
