Not Cleaned yet, but found this stuff today. I'm really liking the unfired bullet. The Half is 1876 and the Dime is, I think, 1865. The Dime is real thin! Trip 3 002.JPG

Not sure about the Black, Perses. I haven't tried to clean them up or anything. Could be the soil or something, but they are just like the previous two found from this site.

Here in Vegas over 75% of my silver comes out fairly black or all black, noticed it does come from certain hard soils here.

Nice variety of finds! I'm still waiting for my first seated coin. What is the oval object at the top right of your picture?

Not sure what it is, but in the middle it says Best Quality and on the bottom I think I can see CONN like Connecticut or something.

How come the coins are so black?

Silver tarnish is on a grayscale that ends in black. The more tarnish, the blacker they get. Tarnish (AgS) is the product of a reaction between silver and sulfides in the environment and is not too unlike oxides for lead and aluminum.

Awesome seated coins! The 1/2 dime looks like an 1865, but either date are good ones. Congrats!

Staining is what happens to silver, even if it is not in salt water. Coin silver is 90%. So the soil will affect that 10% that is not silver.
