Baggage Tag, 2 - LC's & an Early Wrist Watch


I headed back to the 1860 farm site for 3hrs this morning and made some decent finds!
I decided to hit the field to the west of the house and within the first 5 minutes I found the baggage tag. The CNR's main rail line between Toronto & Montreal runs directly through this property about 500' from where I found this piece. My next find was the large copper coin, which unfortunately is completely toasted! My next find was the pocket / wrist watch. I'm pretty sure this is a wrist watch, but the back comes off just like a pocket watch. My next find was an unusual center-fire brass shotgun shell. Normally I'd just chuck something like this into my recycling bucket, but this one was thick and had a manufactures stamp on it that I'd never seen before!

Towards the end of my hunt I found the plated brass harness buckle and a 1906 Canadian LC!

Here is some info I found about the the marks stamped into the back of the watch, I couldn't find any info on 'Ideal US'. As well as, some info on the shotgun casing.

‘Ideal US’ Early Wristwatch Ser. 91390 - ‘Silveroid’ Ser. 1026006

I believe ‘Silveroid’ is an alloy of copper and nickel sometimes known as nickel silver or German silver. It's more practical than silver, gold or gold-filled cases and was the best material for cases until the advent of stainless steel. Keystone Watch Case Co's Patent for the Silveroid trademark was filed on Oct 17, 1900 however it is also listed as being in use since Jan. 1, 1886.

Kynock Birmingham No. 12/ Eley London No. 10 Center fire Cap

Kynoch was a manufacturer of ammunition, later incorporated into ICI but remaining as a brand name for sporting cartridges. Scottish entrepreneur George Kynoch established Kynoch in Witton in Birmingham in 1862 when he opened a percussion cap factory in Witton. Kynoch, along with names such as Eley, became brands of subsidiaries.

Good to see you are still getting out, I like the old baggage tags, cool find!
Those old watches show up every now and then, I've got a couple myself, sadly they're in about the same shape as yours , still neat

You know how it is living in Canada, we have to take advantage of the mild weather while we've got it eh! The watch was an interesting find for me as I've never found one like this. It almost looks like a pocket watch 'hybrid' or a 'crossover' type where people are transitioning from pocket to wrist watches.

It definitely is frustrating DH! Most of the time old coins I have some type of 'surface cancer' going on, but usually I can make some details out!

Unfortunately this coin is worn almost completely smooth, so it must've been in the ground being pushed around by the plow for a long time! I've now had it in the tumbler for 2hrs, I've just checked it and I'm pretty sure it's an 1837 Lower Canada Half Penny. Here's what it used to look like!

I love finding Canadian Pre-confederation coins too, but they're rare as hens teeth!
Although I get just as excited when I find any LC!

23 LC's on the year isn't too shabby my friend, I've only found 15 this year! For the year I'm at 6 pre-confederation tokens and 10 silvers. I mostly hunt farms and old homesteads, so as you know, coins are a lot harder to find at these locals.
