I just spent the last nine days on vacation in Spain - one can only imagine how many Spanish coins I saw in museums and stores - heck I even visited Cadiz, the port that many many many cobs passed through.

I already managed a nice cob just before Christmas, but as 2014 arrived, I could not wait to get out and dig. My hunting bud Bill D and I planned to go as soon as I got back and jet lag and all, I was up early (not too early) to head out on Sunday. Bill already posted his story so I will save you a repeat of the digs - but I do have to add this tid bit in.

I have a superstition that seeing a Bald Eagle on my way to dig is a good omen, and it typically has shown to be true. On my way home from vacation, as I crossed the bridge just miles from my house, my wife and I witnessed 5 bald eagles playing in the air above our car. The very next morning I went digging with Bill and 5 coins were dug between us - how do you like those apples?

Anyways on with the hunt - as Bill mentioned, I quickly dug a cut pistereen shortly after he unearthed his. Not too soon afterwards I dug a nice VA Half Penny. I had never dug a VA Half until I moved to VA three years ago and this now makes number 8 for me!

I also managed to dig a few buttons including some neat little gems. I dug an early and crude pewter button with extra large loop (late 1600s-early 1700s variety), two cufflinks with designs (tudor rose and starburst). I managed to get into a fire pit/trash pit but only scored a large piece of copper at the bottom along with bricks and oyster shells (I kept a few for display purposes).

I ended the day with 14 buttons and a handful of musket balls as well.

The neat little lead fishing weight was fun to see - reminding me of my summer water hunting - though for now I am focused on land and silver.

HH and wishing you all a good New Years. Sorry for the poor inside photos - was cloudy and rainy today and won't have a chance to take more until later this week.

Dan

Very Nice Dan and Bill, as always! You guys are the colonial kings of Virginia. I'm still way back in the pack lol. Happy New Year and HH!

Don't know about that - if I remember right, you dug a killer William & Mary that I would love to find.

Nice digging Dan, tough to keep up with Bill, but you are doing a mighty fine job. Love the half pistereen, that one eluded me while living in VA.
