I found this 1959 class ring and quickly located the owner. He now lives in Baltimore, so I called him on the phone and surprised him with the news that his high school class ring was found. He was gracious and thankful; he filled me in on when he thinks he lost it and where his life has taken him since. The end result was he said there was no need for me to return it to him and if I wanted to keep it I could. I assured him it would be kept in my display, and he was happy with that.

I've had two ring returns and one relic return, and this is a first for me; someone who says "That's ok, keep it."

I'd sent it to him notwithstanding; let him do with it as he wishes.
He gave you a 'knee-jerk' response and may regret it tomorrow.
If he sends it back to you, accept it and put it in your display.

:icon_scratch:

I can assure you his response wasn't knee-jerk. We spoke for quite some time and, being the person that had the actual conversation, I can tell you with certainty he was sure about his decision. All the same I gave him my number and told him to call me if he ever changes his mind.

Good story, and I understand both your's and Makaydon's perspectives....anyhoo, I can't tell what metal the ring is composed of...it looks gold in the photo?

To some, the memories are just too painful to be brought back up.

Some folks just aren't sentimental about rings. Nice of him to be honest about it and to let you keep it.

very nice, i'm thinking this man is up there in his years, so maybe he's not too concerned about a ring that was a part of his life so many years ago! but i wonder if he has children that would like to maybe have it? something to think about! a ring is all i have from my dad and happy to have it and will give to my kids one day!
