I got frustrated waiting for the snow and ice to leave which seems to never come this year so I went yesterday image.jpg to a close spot that I knew looked real good because of of an old stone wall which runs through the woods to the ocean. I hit the spots in the past and never had much luck besides a few 1940's penny's but it always called me back to it. I only had an hour to hunt before dark and at the last minute I got a nice high signal in the woods about 5"-6" down. I knew I had a silver coin so I carefully got through the frozen lair of ground (2") with my hatchet and then dug out the soft soil with my tool enough to get my pin pointer out. When I found the coin I was happy how good of shape it was in and the spotted the date. It was a key date 1887 Canadian quarter. Only 100 000 mintage and very rare above fine condition. It was probably my best find ever and wasn't the first frozen winter find I had. Some of my best finds were going detecting
"out of season"! (:

Thanks. I'm new to the site so my posts and pictures are going to be a bit sloppy for awhile. Haha

The only thing I hate is the ground it came out of was really gritty and it got some light scratches. But beggars can't be choosers I guess. Haha

Victoria silver coins. especially 25 centers are a tough find! Being on the coast sure helps, having lots of age and history makes for some good finds

That's the exact same coin that was my first silver find. Funny that we both found a very low mintage coin. Yours is in better condition than mine. Congrats on a great winter find

Awesome find! It's funny my first silver find was a Canadian quarter and I live in southern Pennsylvania. I found 8 silver Canadian coins in that general area from 1947 to 1967. No idea why a bunch of old Canadian coins were under a bridge in Pennsylvania.

I know what u mean the wife and kid were gone all day and it's 20 degrees with a foot of snow on the ground. It's tough I might as well forget about it until April.

That's a great find.
Vicky quarters are pretty hard to come by in the dirt.
