Hi;

Went back to an early house site that had been pushed around a few acres, and expanded my search to an area nearby in hopes of maybe scaring something up. Managed to dig up a lip to a cast iron kettle and an early iron spoon and thought it was game on and wasted about three hours pounding dirt with nothing else but shotgun shells and buckshot. Went back to the house site and broke out the Gold Bug Pro and was able to dig the below. The piece of brass wire still has some of it's silver wash. The flat button is plain on both sides.

Nice old keyhole escutcheon. The small one went into the actual keyhole and the large over it. Usually these are brass, so I'd try cleaning it.
