Had an itch to dig some Civil War bullets and I did just so! 27 CW bullets.

So yesterday, despite it being 50 degrees colder than the previous day, I decided to go detecting at a spot that I went to twice last year. The first trip there I dug about 30 sharps carbine bullets and the second time I think it was about 12. So I never revisited the site anymore last year. I decided to give it another go. Mainly with each passing time I feel that I have a little bit more knowledge or just HOW to detect properly and plus I always feel that nothing is EVER hunted out. Long story short, I was right and I know there is more waiting there for me. Lead is in abundance in this portion of the woods on this property and all of them are sharps carbine bullets with the exception of a few colt pistol bullets. For the most part there would be anywhere from 2 to 4 in a hole and a lot scattered. Melted lead is something I could have dug all day. There was large amounts of it everywhere. I did find a little brass which was a button back, 2 rivets and 2 percussion caps. I discovered my first fire pit, thanks to a couple nails in the hole. I dug down about 2 feet along with the width as well. I could see the brick or "baked earth" along with ash, but I didn't really have time to dig a big pit out so I filled it in and went on about surface hunting. Days like that are so much fun, for one when you kinda feel a place is hunted dry then to find a lot and two when you're finding stuff consistently and it's GOOD on average from every 1 minute to every 5 to 10 minutes. Can't wait to get back there again and find some more. I have a feeling there could be a plate lingering around in there somewhere for me. Thanks for looking and HH!

That's what it is all about. I believe you are 100 percent right. There is a plate there some where. FIND IT!!!! Lol. I love those pocket full of Minnie ball days. Love it. Way to go. Hunt it slow and cover every inch. Find that or those plates.

With it being wooded and very thick in the areas where a majority of the finds are, that there is so much yet to be found. A lot of bending and ducking and even crawling on my knees to detect. I'm eager to get back, but it's a virgin spot and only I know about it besides my cousin who I let in on it last year so I'm not really worried about someone else going in and digging the spot out.

A thousand each. No, I have no idea lol. I never had an interest in worth. They sell in a local museum for 3 or more dollars.

i'd say you scratched the itch Matt!! WTG, Q.

Certainly did, Quindy. As you know just finding one bullet is a thrill and finding over 20 is even better. lol My favorite part about this spot is I stumbled upon it last year myself. No history on the spot, no research done and separate from all the other finds on the property. Kinda like TRUE treasure HUNTING. lol

The rivets were used in making the knap sacks. ( today's back packs). That is a very good sign.

Those pieces are only worth about 1$ each or less.
But the thrill of the hunt is PRECLESS.
