Been having a slow down at work so Ive been able to fortunately bump the detecting time up. ;D.. These are finds from the last couple of hunts. The copper coins around here usually come out pretty bad , it took alot of patience to get the dates off the Indian Heads, one of them is a 1859, the first year for IHs :D , the other an 1863.... , they along with the buttons were found in the same area. One nice button is a Philadelphia Police button , the other an Eagle button..

Went to a corn field and found the large cent , you can see ONE CENT on the reverse and the silhouette of Lady Liberty at a certain angle but not in the pic.

The Roosie cleaned up with a little baking soda rub.

The religious medalion is from Italy.

Cant wait to get out there again ;)

HH :)
Jim

Wow, looks like you had yourself a couple nice days of hunting. You found all that in two days, I can't wait to see what you show us the rest of the year!

Hey Jim,

That's a nice pistol bullet you have there. Check here:
http://www.baymediapro.com/collection/bullet_details.asp?BID=479

It looks like your bullet is a variant for an old Colt Revolver.

Also, anytime you guys need to ID a bullet or cartridge dating to the Civil War, this place is GREAT!

Thanks South Teacher, I'll put those places in my files for later reference.

HH all and remember to keep your coil to the soil, Ringfinder

Yup , its a fatty , the same weight as the other copper-nickel IHs (1860 to 64). Your post had me do some reading up and rechecking my Indian Heads. It turns out that one of the others is an 1859 too! ;) I could tell because on the reverse there is a laurel wreath , not an oak wreath, 1859 was the only year they had a laurel wreath and no shield on top of the wreath. This coin, though has a pit right on the numbers 59 >:(

Interesting finds, Jim. Hope this ice melts soon so we can get back out there and dig some more.
