Looks like a old coin or token. Can you take a photo of it by a modern coin for a size scale? Did you try any light cleaning yet? Sometimes a little olive oil soak can help identify what it is when they are like that.
Well the find was made in the back yard of my in law's father's home. I was told that there were a lot of acres used for farming sugar cane fields and right on the same spot there was an old house before the current one was built. The current house was built like in the early 1900's so that means that the place was lived as early as the mid 1800's I suppose.Looks like a token. Good find! I dug some tokens that are so worn nothing I can do would identify them. You could try the peroxide method. How deep was it? Anything else dug around it that could roughly date the area?
