Yes it was a seeded hunt. But the first time I have ever found any of those coins so very exciting indeed!

Seeded hunts can be a lot of fun..........IF.............they don't cost an arm and a leg to participate. And the items you recover are, to you, worth what you paid to hunt. I've never been to one because I've been told there are a lot of "pros" who go to all the seeded hunts they can and are VERY GOOD at what they do. I would rather compete with trash and iron to find some goodies. Plus I'm frugal....LOL

Calf rope. Looks like I'm out of my league, Ill just stick to research, PR, digging holes, and EARNING my silver.

Never been on a seeded hunt in my 10 year career of detecting... :icon_scratch: I just figured if you can dig 34 silver dimes in one run then you should easily learn how it sounds... :dontknow:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

To answer some of the questions. Yes Seeded hunts are often put on by detecting/prospecting clubs at least out here where I live. The silver hunt I found all you see in the photo cost me $40, to participate in. It was my first seeded hunt event. They limited the entries to only 35 participants to an area, I would approximate to be the size of a football field.

There were 2 other hunts prior to this. One was an Old Coin hunt and the other was a token hunt. The token hunt had specially marked tokens which in turn were associated with prizes to include a few AT Pro detectors and a White's Detector as grand prizes.

As for "professional hunters" who take all the glory at seeded hunts, hogwash, Bring'em on! I am confident in my detector and my own ability to interpret what it is telling me.
"I must master it as I must master my life. My detector, without me, is useless. Without my detector, I am useless. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

Nice, last weekend our club had a small spring warm up hunt. I was lucky enough to find one of the 14 coins.
In a couple of weeks they sponsor a bigger international hunt. A club from Canada comes over to hunt. I hear one prize is a gold coin.

34 Mercs for $40.00 sounds like fun and a good deal to me too.

This is a great thread. I especially like how the people get all whipped up about a "seeded hunt". Grandma would have said that if you didn't have something nice to say, then say nothing at all.

Good job Western Sky Ranch!
