HEY GUYS AND GALS

Out for a very quick hunt last night after supper.

Almost didn,t go...Grabbed teh CZ-21 and Cousin Ed and hit the shore in a spot hadn,t been to in over a month.

Figured would be a bust as there wasn,t anything there last 2 times out to that spot and was giving rain --so short hunt.

But I was totally wrong !!!

The whole beach had completely changed..the sand had shifted all over the place.

Ed found this button...poor picture as was getting dark and used the truck interior light to gte a pic.

Any ideas on the button ???

Sweet and unusual button.

I'm not seeing anything in Albert's that match the features of that button.:dontknow: I would love to see someone ID that.

Iron Patch gave an ID of 1790-1812 British Naval Button

There is no Spanish coins in Tennessee ?

Eds button is very nice , yes !!!

AQ, we do dig a few Spanish. However, since 1995 I have only dug one 1797 one reale, one 1832 Mexican 8 Reales, and a piece of 8 with "177" showing. We dig a few British coins but certainly not the variety you do there. The Spanish I have dug were in Civil War sites. HH, Q.

Somewhere around there. The date on these isn't really as big a deal because they are Rev War. But I guess knowing it's 1812 is cool too.

Can't see the backmark now can you? That would probably narrow it down.

I'm guessing that was found on land because the condition doesn't seem right for the shore. If it was on the shore I bet it wasn't there to long.

Yup...was found on the shore.....3/4 of the way to low water about 50 feet from my Spanish coin.

Can,t see the back mark....there is armor rock above where it was found...so prolly didn,t wash outta the bank in the last 15 years.

He has veg oil on it ..tahts why its all shiny and looking good. What would it be made outta ?

So the American and British Naval buttons had a rope around the anchor, the French doesn't. Iron Patch comes through, with ease. :)

Gilt plated brass likely. Gilt doesn't hold up too well in salt water, but did pretty good on that one.

The vast majority we dig would no doubt be British, but if you look at Albert's book it's extremely confusing, and even says it's confusing! If I person really wanted to know what they have they'd have to look at both the front and back and do the work to ID it. Earlier and later is easier, but the 1790s/1812 is a mess because so many are so similar.

Great pistareen Aqua. Should clean up nicely with a little light electrolysis. And that's a cool early navy button too!

For doing a small item like a silver coin all you need is a small plastic container and a cell phone battery charger. Just let it cook for a minute or two and then check it by rubbing the coin between your fingers to remove the black tarnish. Repeat if necessary, but don't' overdo it.
