I can't believe there are unplanted fields still but who's complaining?!! It was a perfect day to detect, it was cool and the wind was minimal. The day started off slow but I was able to find a few buttons and a worn copper. I moved over to another part of the field and started to find more buttons and buckle pieces. I started to tightly grid an iron infested area and found the usual lead balls and tacks and then I pulled out this small hammered silver coin. If it's British it will be my first but I don't think it is. Hopefully someone here will know what it is. If not, I'll throw it up on a coin forum where I've had success in the past. Thanks for lookin'!

I know the coin, isn't hammered, just not coming to me. One was posted not too long ago.

I am indeed! Wish it was in better condition but at least I have an ID, thanks to you. I like any coin that I can place in context with the site and this coin fits the site perfectly. I would like to find a British hammered in a site adjacent to Jamestown.

You nailed it! Thanks IP!

No wonder it looked familiar Joey - I dug one last year, or at least part of one. Sorry to have your hammered bubble burst, but still a very nice find.

At least you got the whole coin. I've only seen pieces found on the east coast so far. I found this one almost a decade ago now. Kudos.

I never knew they existed. On a different topic, have you ever detected on the eastern shore?

That slick copper coin is, a King George III. I have never seen an entire silver Louis XV posted on here!

The only other Windward Islands 12 sols I've seen dug other than my own was also a cut piece just like mine. That's not a very big sample size so I'm sure there are other whole ones out there.

I live on and hunt the eastern shore exclusively. More recent research shows there are thousands of very early 17th century homesites here. In fact, some counties were just as populated as those near Jamestown vicinity. That really surprised me.
