Buckle, Button, Coins and Keys

I got up early this morning and headed off to a site that I found about 2 miles up on a ridge. Thought it could potentially be virgin and it was. Not as old as I normally like to hunt but lots of good targets and it was a fun 5 hours of hunting. All of the coins and buttons were found within a 20 by 20 area next to an apple tree. I found my first old key today, 2 in fact. One was in the middle of nowhere and has a 47 on it. Love these old keys. I also found my first v nickel. An 1889 in terrible condition. All of the LCs are pretty ugly as usual for around here. The LCs are 1807DB, an 1816, and an 1854. I thought I had a holed LC but can't see anything on it. Found a ton of buckles today and am assuming that most are horse or oxen related. One is very tiny and has 2 tiny prongs on it. I found 5 flat buttons and one has a little design on the back. Sorry bout the crappy pics but took a sharp stick in the ear and just wanted to hit the couch when I got home. Some of the coins are still in the hp. The indian head has nice detail and pretty high relief. I found that there yesterday morning when I was there for about 20 minutes and got called out for some work issues. Thanks for looking guys. It it good not to "expect" things, but is still a numbers game, for me anyway it's somewhere between 10 to 20 coppers for each silver. Obviously that ratio changes for individual sites, and general local. Like Bill D finds more silver than copper...down there.

Thanks IH. It was fun digging all of those good targets today. Found all of the buttons and coins in a very small area. Lots of new sites to explore this season. So far the research has paid off

Great finds! I assume this might be an old hotel? I really like that "47" key. Have found a couple like the other but never like the numbered one. Hope your ear is ok. Great pics.

Hey OD the strange thing is that there's no record of a hotel there. It's a foundation that had a father and his son occupied it after that. The key was a long way away from the home site. Maybe there's a huge buried treasure chest out there and that key is the key to my retirement. :-) ok maybe not but it's fun to dream

Sorry I had to yell it, I wasn't sure if you could hear me. You guys up north dig those coins like pull tabs. I've only dug three in over 10 yrs. I do have two Spanish silver though.
I hope your ear is feeling better. That old "47" key is way cool.

Doug I'd trade all my LCs for one spanish silver. :-). Trust me friend I NEVER get tired of digging old coins but the silver is scarce areound here. You do just fine buddy! And yes that key is really interesting

It was fun but you're right on about wishing it was older. I knew it wasn't as old as I like but figured its location could make it virgin. Also figured there could be one really nice find there. Lots of good finds instead but it was a fun day. I do have to mid 1600s sites, one I know is virgin and the other I'm pretty sure will be but you never know til you start swinging. One can hope

Yeah AQUA has this bad habit of outdoing people :-) I would call it a serious character flaw. Nobody likes a one upper :-) All it takes is that one killer find so my journey continues
