S or not I would be tickled to dig it as I've never found an IH before. So either way very nice find.

Nice Indian! Even if its not an S it feels good to get a new "oldest". I got a 1901 dime last year and cant seem to break that barrier. GL &HH!

Can't really explain it, but there's a certain feeling I get when I hold piece of history, I'm sure many others feel the same. This is why we do this I guess.
Nice finds, I'm still after my first Indian head. Good luck Mack. HH

So much fun breaking old records and setting new bests. Every time I get a new oldest I'm psyched. Nice coin

Thanks for all the kind remarks. Here's one more pic of the back. Any good ideas on how to clean it up? I still swear I see an S.

I use hp on my indian heads. Warm it up a bit in microwave and set it in there. Here's a pic of how mine usually come out of ground and how they clean up. This one was better than most as it still had pretty high relief and good detail.

Hey MackDigger, I really do hope you have an S on that coin, but certainly wouldn't hold my breath. To clean it try dabbing the coin with a Q tip that was dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Gently work on the area beneath the wreath on the reverse side of the coin. If you have an S, it shouldn't take long for you to see an outline of the S on the coin. BTW if you don't have a loupe or good magnifying glass, just take a nice clear photo in macro mode (with the flower icon) and blow up the photo on your computer screen.
