Possibly cut silver?

Your picture is not a great quality - so it is tough to see. That being said, the size looks right to be a cut 1/2 or 1 reale and I believe I can see the edging of what looks to be a pistareen. The hole also bodes well.

I'd like to see some better close-ups, but based on what I'm seeing it does appear to be a 60 deg wedge of cut silver.

Very hard to get good pics. I'll try again soon. I can see something that almost looks like a sun with rays coming off of it. Do any colonial silvers come to mind with that mentioned?

The close up is showing what looks like rather modern looking letters - I think I'm seeing a couple of E's that just don't look period for the Spanish
cut silver - You may well have "cut" silver- I'm just not convinced that you have Spanish colonial "cut silver" , more like modern "cut" silver .

I was thinking the letters looked to blocky and modern also. Could still be pretty old... like 1800s. I don't know if I'll ever ID it though. Not enough detail

it almost looks like it reads 'one dime' but that doesn't make much sense because it doesn't match any US dime, or Canadian dime that I'm aware of. Any chance that it may be aluminum, like possibly a play dime or a token?

I think you would be able to see a lot more detail if you did some light electrolysis on your coin. I still believe its cut silver, and once its cleaned it should be easy to ID.

This is interesting. Does seem to be cut silver and looks like it says one dime but in an unusual place. Hope someone can help you ID it.

Very odd, Ive looked for the last hour at Play Money, Foreign coins, tokens, medals. etc And haven't found that match...It Looks like it "could" say ONE DIME...but havent seen anythign close, besides Aluminum Play money

Even though this item might turn out to be a modern piece of junk, the fact that it's holed lends some credibility to the colonial silver idea. Whole coins were frequently holed, but I also have several cut pieces that have been pierced as well, and 2 of those have been found this season. It wouldn’t make any sense for something more modern to be holed like that. Also, how did that item read on your detector? Cut silver on my F75 generally registers slightly below zinc penny range, at least for pieces of that size. If it’s aluminum it may read a bit higher than that. I still recommend that you use some light electrolysis to remove that black tarnish so the remaining details on the coin can be revealed.

I never would have got that one, but did agree with everything that was being said towards it looking more modern and very likely being a token.

My initial reaction was a 1/4 cut of a willow tree shilling. Then I spotted ''one dime'' and that was that. It def looks just like something super old dug here along Chesapeake Bay.

Yep, the first pics where you couldn't see much I was thinking MA silver, and my 2nd thought was really early Spanish.
