First of all sorry about the crappy pictures, had trouble with the camera all day, at one point in the field it wouldn't work at all, and by the time I got it working tonight the light was fading fast .

At last I managed to get out onto a field, a friend and myself went back to the area were I did the short video, the field had just been seeded with maize and I knew it had been battered to death by detectors, but I also knew there was still a good chance of a Saxon styca, a small copper coin unique to my part of the country. https://www.yorkcoins.com/northumbria.htm

This field is very stoney and is full of iron so the coins can be very difficult to find, on top of that they are very small just 10-13mm and weighing 1.04 of a gram. I set the Deus up into Deus fast, this would help with the iron and off I went, sure enough the iron started to show then the small pieces of lead, and then a signal I was sure was a tiny coin..it was... Aethelred 11 First reign, circa 841-843/4 AD. In quite stunning condition for a Copper Alloy coin that has been under ground for the best part of 1200 years. It's was once Silvered, there is traces of the Silver still showing, and a lot that have come of this field have been Silvered.

Full ID... Anglo-Saxon Aethelred II of Northumbria 'MONNE' Styca
Copper-alloy, 1.04 grams, 13.78 mm. First reign, circa 841-843/4 AD. Obverse: rosette of pellets in centre with +EDILRED REX legend around. Reverse: rosette of pellets with +MONNE legend.

Glad to see you out and posting a stunning Saxon Copper! Amazing how good a copper coin can be after all these years. Do you know what the diamond shaped thing is?

I can only assume it's some sort of pin Mate, as there is iron running through the centre.

WOW that is in amazing condition, it must be the alloy that helped it survive, as copper doesn't.
I thought the first pics (#3, #7) were very good, the last one seems a tad...grainy ? (if I may)

For a Copper that old it's in beautiful condition. A little antique wax will help with the pitted surface.

I feel silly getting all excited about finding 1900's silver, ha lol. That coin is so cool (and so old) different world over here on the other side of the pond.

That is a FANTASTIC coin find for condition, age, and rarity.

I wish all of Tnet knew how rare Saxon coins were to dig.

BIG congrats, friend!

Hi Will :hello:...These types are unique to my part of the country, but they nearly always come from contaminated sites, you need a good machine to pluck these out.
