Hi all,
So about a month or so ago I told you all about a small encampment I had researched that dated the early 1900's. There I found some old coins, buttons etc.
Well about a mile or so down from that location I noticed an old foundation that has been deteriorating through the years.
After a bit of research, I decided to head out there and see what I coud pluck from the ground.
After about a 2 hour search all I was finding was junk, old pieces of tin, bottle caps and a few expired cartridges.
On my way back to the truck I got a decent hit so I went in.....Below is a pic of what popped out!
After some research it appears to be civil war era but I am not 100% positive......Can anyone help me out?
Thanks,

Unless they were there before the early 1900's it's not a Civil War period find.

The area I searched dates back to mid 1800's. It was used as a way station for a mail and Stage route.

An important time-dating clue is that your US Army Infantry Officer eagle-I button's letter I has what is called "serifs" on the letter. Serifs are the little hooks/prongs on the ends of the letter's main bar or bars. That dates your button to being from 1864 through 1874. (In 1875 the design of the eagle was changed to a slightly different version than what we see on your button.)

Again, you taught me something that I did not know. - But now I do!
