Really nice ring you found there, I'd be proud to have found that baby.
I can't recall ever seeing that exact design before, but to me, it has a very regal look about it.

Happy Hunting,
Johnny

thanks for the reply gentlemen it was a really monumental find for me, i have no idea on the age of the find except for the age of the site but hopefully the guru "Pbk" can throw his two cents in , i was thinking fleur di lis as well but i could be wrong . funny thing is it was an inch an a half down but i think it was kept up in the shallow from a very rooty soil some of the other stuff found was a 1858 flying eagle cent and other items in that era

That is a good find, more than likely you have probably figured out that the insignia, is just the initials of the owner or the person that gave the ring.

Find out who owned the property.
Maybe those are the initials of someone famous! That would make the ring even more valuable.

A Compass Magnum 420 recently brought back to life. And an untested "in the wild" Teknetics.
They still use the fleur de lis for jewelry, so you can't really tell the age from that alone. Google images shows several jeweler's that sell them:

None of the rings I've seen have the fleur de lis staggered and facing opposite directions like yours, (I don't know if thats significant or not). And that symbol is usually related to France, but I understand that it is in use far more commonly in the province of Quebec, Canada. The type of ring seems to be used as a wedding band.

Nice ornamented wedding band!!! I would imagine that it is also quite old--19thc. most likely. The scriptwork on the engraving is quite detailed. My guess is 1860-90. Can you give us a close up of any other marks on the inside of the ring?
