I've been metal detecting for 7 years now and I thought I was prepared for everything. WRONG!!

After a number of false alarms (most notably a Brazilian coin) I Got a GOLD COIN!! I took it in my hand and stared at it..definitely Gold and definitely a Gold Coin! The back had something soldered to it..perhaps making a cufflink or a broach? Still...it's a Gold Coin and it's my first and I Love it! So excited I really couldn't detect any more until I told someone so I called my detector buddy. I couldn't tell him more than Yes it's a gold coin, No I can't tell the country or date...it's a GOLD COIN!!

OK..breath ... ( can you tell I'm excited?) OK.. this was at my local beach..been there a couple dozen times. It was about 6" deep in the wet sand and a nice strong signal with my Garrett ATX.

The coin is a Mexican dos y medio peso Gold coin dated 1945..just a little over 2 grams.

Next on my list is a USA Gold Coin (of any denomination)...one can dream.

Any gold coin is rare to find. Be even nicer if it was US. A few months ago someone found a gold Peso and it made banner so this one should to. I am going to vote.

I'm still enjoying that coin! What's neat is to drop it onto your hand from about 6" and feel the heft. What a feeling!

Thanks all for your comments. I've been very happy to share this find with you. I do want to point out that it's a small coin just under a dime size. My original photo here is deceptively HUGE and so here it is photographed with a dime for reference. Still a beauty of a coin!

Finding Gold rocks! Slaps on the back!

You know.... when someone gets a hole in one on the golf course he is obligated to buy a round at the 19th hole. Maybe we should start the same tradition whenever someone finds a serious gold piece? I don't drink but an ice-cold 7-Up sure would hit the spot.

I'd like to share a few more photos...These are as found original photos.

There was sand encrusted on the faced and that's why (with my poor eyesight too) that I couldn't immediately ID the coin...except it was most surely GOLD!

That's a cool find for sure, it's a rare thing to find a gold coin from your oun country but to find one from someone elses country...very rare. I'm going to vote banner on this one.
You might think about taking it to a jeweler to have that solder removed with heat.

WOW..thanks everyone for voting BANNER! I'm very pleased to be able to share this find and must admit it looks real good up there!

As an aside there's a California detectorist who has 14 Gold Coins to his name. I've just alerted him that I am officially challenging his record.. I now have ONE!
