Couple firsts for me today.

I was hunting a house lot today here in des arc and dug up an 1827 large cent! This is my first coin from the 1800's and my first coin older than the actual town I found it in! Des Arc was incorporated in 1854 so this coin is 27 years older. I can't imagine how this coin ended up where I found it, but I am sure glad it was there!

Congrats on your first large cent! Large cents we made until 1857 and it's not uncommon to find a coin that is much older than the area you find it. Just look at your pocket change. It's not unusual to find a 40 or 50 year old coin in your pocket. I would keep detecting around the area you found this coin. There could have been some early commerce going on there.

Thanks man. Yeah I found it with my vaquero. It's working a lot better than my ace was. The ace is a good machine but I just wasn't confident enough with it.
