According to net chuyler huntly and gram of NY made military stuff from 1854 to 1880.That is only info I found so far. This was dug in NY along with a traction plate and the colonial fried copper was on a different hill.Copper is same size as the Connecticut one I dug last Saturday.Letters on copper are destroyed. Soaking it anyway but doubt it will help. Now the plate on the other hand is nearly perfect. It has 13 stars and 3 arrows. It is heavy.letters are a little crude on moniker. And of course has the back mark.Plate or buckle also has owners initials GJH carved on back.Never dug one of these before and hoping it is a old one. Thanks for any info.(and 2 coppers 300miles apart in under a week after none all year was cool to)

info

It is a US Army Officer Regulation Model-1874 waist belt plate. For identification and the very-exact same emblem on your plate, see plate #917 on page 544 in the book "American Military Belt Plates" by O'Donnell & Campbell. So, your Model-1874 "eagle-&-wreath" beltplate could only have been sold by the Schuyler, Hartley, & Graham Company sometime between 1874 and 1878, when Mr. Schuyler retired and the company's name was changed to just Hartley & Graham Co.

Regards,
Pete
