I got out Sunday with my buddy Micah to spend some time hunting down some old school sites. The first place we went had an old school on it but now has a home, we got permission to hunt but wasn't getting a lot of signals in the front yard. I went over to a small strip of yard on the other side of the driveway that has some nice large trees. As soon as I started swinging I got a nice signal but at 2" deep. I flipped the plug over and a quarter rolled out and it was caked with clay and at first sight I thought it was clad until I saw the stars around Lady Liberty! I could not believe I just dug this Barber at 2" deep and it's in pretty good shape. We didn't get much after that a couple of wheats and Micah dug a nice Indian. The next spot we hit was another old school site and the man that owns the place started going to school there in the 20's. He gave us some wonderful history of the place and the more he kept talking the more we knew we were in a great spot. But our bubble was soon popped when he told us that when he built his house in the 60's he filled the whole place with multiple feet of dirt. Such a let down but that's how it goes. We spent the rest of our time door knocking with not much luck with old finds. We hit a great looking farmhouse and started finding wheaties, an old dog tag and a nice Indian. I thought this will be a good spot to finish our day on, but the owner came out after about 15 minutes and said he had to go to town and we needed to leave. I think the guy changed his mind on us being there so that was another bust. Some days it seems to go this way but it was a beautiful day to be out and enjoying it. HH David
