1940's coin spill

Detected a nickel signal some 6 inches down. Out popped 2 nickels back to back (1941 and 1942). I check the dirt pile before refilling my hole and detected yet a third signal -- Mercury dime, 1942. Oldest pocket spill yet :icon_thumleft:

That 1942 is a war nickel (1942-1945).
I believe that they're 35% silver as I recall. You should check that if you haven't already.

I will re-check, but I believe I looked for the mint mark already. They made both silver and non-silver nickels in 1942, I believe. And I think it's 40%. Even better, right?

Nice spill there! Never had a "War Nick" turn red here, they are usually kinda greenish or "Silvery Grey" looking. Sometimes are shiny .

Looks like a nickel 42 to me for sure. Flip it over and take a pic of the back. If it doesn't have the large mint mark it's not silver. Kind of cool they made both the same year.
