Very nice 1864 IH... obviously the bronze version and not the copper/nickel version... 1864 was the year they changed over the composition. Some of the 1864's were copper/nickel.

That may be at least a $100 coin if you clean it properly. Congratulations.

Looking at the condition, I would say that its been there since just a few years after minting.

The only wear I can see is on the tips of the first two feathers and a little on the rim. Even the high spots look good. I would have to agree this coin passed through very few hands before it was dropped shortly after minting.

Very sweet looking job you have done so far, I agree with evolution, it looks like a fatty, probably part of the reason it is in such nice shape.

Congrats on the find!! Yeah the 64 bronze are made out of great material!! I have found similar one in the past brings to mind the phrase "They don't make them like they used to now!!"
Heres the one I had, enjoy =)

I soak em in hot soapy water for an hour or so, then I take a non waxed tooth pick and and lightly rub, then it goes into the olive oil for a long soak and repeat process.

13.7 million 1864 IHs were copper/nickel... mid year they changed over to bronze. 39.2 million bronze ones were minted. This one is definitely the later bronze variety. The copper/nickel ones were the fattys.
