Hunted a 100+ year old house property but it was just trashy hell. I think fill may have been brought in years ago. The rest of the property looks good but I will have to wait until the spring when the tall grass is gone. Managed to pull out around 10 sixties penny's and one 1963 silver dime at least. Also found a strange thing that rang in as silver but I can't find no markings.

Nice on the silver dime , the small "concho" may have been one of 8 or 10 as part of a hatband ornament .

You may be right. I have a few little attachment pieces that fell off either side of it when I dug it out. I would have never guessed that. Thanks! :)

I plan to go back when I have more time. Only went a hour or so before dark and cherry picked some hits. It's a new spot for me and they are hard to get lately. It will be better when the tall grass is gone in the spring but a small chunk is mowed so that's were I'm doing. Lots of iffy signals to try that I skipped! :)

you dig enough trash and the good stuff begins to come out... its not fun and can be frustrating but the rewards can be really awesome. good luck

I find the more modern trash like 1970's+ the worst in old sites. I like the old homesteads etc. were its pretty much just old iron, copper, silver and hopefully gold and spread apart. But they are few and far between! :)

Get all the trash then the good stuff comes !!! Proven so many times on this site. I must have dug over a hundred roofing nails from the side of my yard, then I found a gold class ring, a silver charm, a couple mercs, and a couple buffalo nickels. I did find some of them while I was clearing out the nails, but the majority came after. I sure was tired of digging nails though.........:BangHead:

I have lots of good spots I have to clear the junk and I know there is goodies underneath. With my job and family it's hard not to just dig the better signals with the amount of time I get to hunt. The worst is if a spot gets bought before I get to it and it gets leveled, filled and developed.
