Was hunting county fairgrounds that dates back to 1870s and found a lot of clad over $4 worth. No silver this time. I usually find at least a silver coin or ring but I was in an older section that isn't used as much and pulled this building out of the ground. Doesn't have a loop for necklace so not really sure what it was for. It sure looks like the pics I seen of the old court house here that was built in 1846. It was torn down and new one was built in early 1900s. Not to sure what I have but decided to post to see if anyone may know or seen one. There are no makers marks that I can find or any gold k marking on it. Thanks for looking.

I forgot it came out of ground pretty much like it looks only thing I did was rinse it with water.

It appears to be a depiction of the Acropolis in Athens, so any local relevance is unlikely. Is it possible that the suspension loop (if it had one) snapped off the top? Maybe it popped out of a ring? It's a nice find with good detail, so hopefully it's gold!

I think it's a bit big for a ring but I can't see any marks where a loop or even a pin broke off. I'll test for gold my buddy has a kit. It's heavy enough and not magnetic. But who knows may be painted lead. I'm not going to scratch it to find out though. Thanks for the info and I believe you are correct on building. I sure hope it's gold because that would be first gold I've found out there and I dig pull tabs like I'm paid to do it lol. It sounded a bit higher than a pull tab but I think VDI was high 60s or low 70s on at pro. Can't remember I don't look at numbers much unless it's a real high pitch for maybe a silver so I know if it's a dime or quarter. Crossing fingers.

That's a cool find! It would be nice if it were gold. I have found one gold piece of jewelry, and it came out shiny, no tarnishing. Just had to rinse with water.

I've never been there, but from Internet images, I don't see much difference between the profiles of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Silverado Jewellry calls theirs the Parthenon.

Yeah, sorry, brain fart there. An acropolis is just a high point or citadel. The Parthenon is the most enigmatic structure remaining on the Athenian acropolis. Apparently it was still in great shape with an intact roof until the 1600s, when the invading Turks used it as a powder magazine. The powder ignited and the results were catastrophic. Then in the 1820s, the invading Turks yet again set up camp there and if memory serves, they ran out of bullets so they began knocking down pillars to get at the ancient lead used in its construction. The dismayed Greeks sent a load of ammunition to the Turks so they would cease their destruction of Greek cultural landmarks and get back to the business of shooting at eachother.

i love history so thanks for the lesson I need to research more on this subject as I'm more of an American history buff. But learning new things about history is something I like to do when I get the time. Sometimes I wish I would of been more interested when I was younger because I spent a few years over seas in some very historic places but back then I was only interested in two things and one was beer. Lol

Got a better look at the top and I can see where the loop was and it it's not a diff color it's gold colored where it broke off. I'm not holding my breath but it just may be gold. I don't have mag with me I just used my phone and zoomed in and seen it but still can't find a k or makers mark so it may be some other metal. I sure hope it's gold though.

Heh, yeah that beer tends to get in the way of more worthwhile pursuits!

I did a google image search or "gold parthenon pendant" and there are a good number of similar-looking pieces, including these:

So if it isn't a stand-alone charm/pendant, it could have broken free of a larger item which might account for the lack of hallmarks. Hopefully this is gold #1 for ya!

I clicked with the anticipation of seeing a large archaeological trench, then saw what you really found. Gave me a good laugh, cute little thing. Made my day! :laughing7:

Im thinking its probably gold also since it came out that clean with no discoloration usually associated with copper or bronze. Maybe a good plating, but i found a few plated items here and i dont know if its the soil here or what, but that plating dont last long. It gets bubbles under it and looks like a badly done tinting job with crinkles and whatnot.

Either way cool lil piece congrats!

Initial test says 14k so I will have to take it in to be sure. I'm sure it's solid. Doing the happy dance now lol. It weighs almost 2 grams. Looked at it a little closer and it was connected on 6 sides so must of been part of a piece and may explain the missing 14k mark. May of been like the pic in earlier post. Thanks for looking.

Definitely the Parthenon. I recognized it as soon as I saw it. Good call and nice find.
