I wasn't going to go out tonight because it was raining all day and I just got back from a business trip last night and needed rest, but of course I ended up going out. I just went out in my neighbors yard as well as mine for about an hour. I have hit this area so many times this summer since it is the easiest place to go. I rarely get any solid signals anymore since I've hit it hard. Well today is the first time I went while the ground was wet. I was getting a lot of dig worthy signals. I found a wheat penny and this 1940 d merc. It makes for my 5th silver this year. I honestly believe the wet ground allowed me to pick up different signals. I know ground conditions affect the machines performance but has anyone had a similar experience? I recommend trying a place that you have hit hard over the years next time the ground is wet and see if you come up with anything.

Funny you should mention it. I've cleaned my yard out many times, to the point where I never get more than a blip anymore, then today it rained really hard and I said what the hell and went out and found all this!

Most of it was pretty deep but some of it was only a few inches down. One of them is even a wheatie!

I've heard many experienced MDers say hunting wet ground is very good. I'd settle for enough rain to make the ground a little less hard then concrete whether it improved the signals or not. Congrats on the merc. One of my favorite coins to find.

yes mercs are one of my favorite coins and it was my first one I was opposite of everyone else in the fact that my first silvers were two halves and two quarters but no dimes haha

The best time to hunt is after a rain! I guess the water helps intensify the target signal.....or the worms are pushing stuff up trying to cover themselves to stay dry?! Lol!
