Fan's Roman Site - Day 3 - CELTIC GOLD!!!

I love Mondays.:headbang:

Dad & I spent 5.5 hours gridding the limits of the site. As per norm, the Roman Artefacts often end up on the boundries:icon_scratch:
As we we gridding the gap between Fan's Site & the Metal Working area, I finally struck gold. We had a blank year last year for Celtic Gold but now I'm back on the board.
It's a tiny Quarter Stater of Tasciovanus - 20BC-10AD. (1.34g) - Pegasus Reverse.

31 Roman Bronze Coins
Broken Roman Fibula (1st C AD)
A large complete Fibula8-)
A once Silvered bronze hair pin (Roman)
Tudor Clothes Fastener

It is hard to top two-thousand year old Celtic gold! Congrats Cru on finding another incredible piece of history. As small as that coin is, and with the low conductivity of the gold, did it give you a faint signal? And now that the field has yielded gold, will you grid it again to see if you missed anything?

No it was a good signal, but only a couple of inches deep. It must of sounded pretty good because once I got down to a small lump, I was thinking small silver rather than bronze.

We always grid good sites again, but only if they are ploughed or conditions improve. Otherwise we need to move onto the next one before we run out of time. We will be on this site for many years, until we can't find anything.

PS. bearing in mine we haven't finished finding the outer edges of the scatter. Which is job no.1.

Grats Crusader! I pretty much only check this website on the weekends just to see what new stuff you've gotten. Very cool.

Last person who saw that coin before you was born in the B.C. era. Simply stunning!

A cheap one until I can decide on a very good brand-name one to buy.

Now that is a great find.

I wonder what the value of it is as equal to a days wages back in it's time?

Cru, your finds continue to astonish. Huge congrats on another great banner find. Although you routinely make banner finds, there is nothing routine about any of them. All well deserved and thank you for sharing!

19 banner finds! You'll have to do really outdo yourself for your 20th banner find! BIG congratulations on the gold, my friend. And that nice big fibula is a great find too! Had a beer in your honor tonight. :occasion14:

Cheers,

Buck

That was no monetary system at the time & the Celtic people never wrote anything down, in fact these coins are the only place that romanised names appear. Ie the only written words they produced. So its impossible to know its worth, other than at the highest levels of the tribe & ritual activity.
