I took a spring break vacation to Florida with my brother Jeff (clump63)
and 4 teenagers last week! We had a great time and managed to get
a few days of metal detecting in while we were there. Jeff and I found
out real quick that the metal detecting competition down there is FIERCE!!
Nothing like we are used to here in Indiana.
Our second day we decided to hit a popular beach area by 7 a.m. and realized that we were late...there were already 4 or 5 old timers out there
scanning the sand. Jeff took to the right side of the beach and I took to
the left side...wondering if there would even be anything left since the
regulars were already well on their way to scooping sand.
Anyway, long story short....I dug up this beauty and almost fainted!
I took it to the local jeweler today....the ring is stamped 18k and the
diamond is 3/4 carot. He recommended to me where to take it to have the
stone graded as he found it to be an outstanding stone!
Approximate value in his opinion....$4,000 to $5,000 !!
Oddly enough....this is the first ring I have ever found..... ;D

Fantastic ring. Congrats. If I remember right, when I grew up in Indiana, a pull tab was a ring. ;D

Nice going!! Don't ya know someone's crying in their beer about now. What a great addition...a person can go many, many years and not find a nice one like that. 8) 8)
Ya know Stoney...I thought about that for a minute...then chalked it up to
the hope that they had insurance on it....
then I started crying in my beer because I was so happy!!

Congrats on the fantastic find. You never said what beach you found it on, but from the surf it had to be the Atlantic side.
Treasure Hunter...your right..it was the Atlantic side..about 50 miles due
east of you!

It looks like you found it in dry sand. It's odd that it would ring as a coin. I found at least 150 rusty bottle caps that rang up a gold on the beach last week.

It looks like you smoked the competition! I take my hat off to you! A hearty CONGRATULATIONS!

CHEERS! ;)

Ridley

Thanks Ridley...and yes..it was dry sand. It was far enough away from the water that I dont believe that it was washed in. The signal was so strong that I didnt even hesitate as to whether to dig it or not. It was no deeper than 3 inches into the sand. This is the first time that I have ever salt water beach hunted so alot of the vacation digging experience was new to me....like I said...
it had to be a stroke of good luck!
I guess I should have bought a lottery ticket while I was there!!

I did get a few pics of some other specimens that washed in from the water....
