My buddy and I hunted a nice stretch of sidewalk tear out today. I was able to come up with 3 indian head pennies, a mercury dime, and a nice old button with a design on it. My buddy did a little better, scoring a silver Washington quarter, a mercury dime, 2 indian heads and a draped bust large cent. First a picture of my finds.... The indian heads are 1900, 1885, and a nice 1864 that appears to have an "L" on it.

And a picture of my buddy's finds. He's not a member of TNET so he wouldn't be posting this. Figured you might want to see. Can't see a date on hid large cent yet but he might be able to see one eventually. It has a bit of detail left on it.

Not sure if you can see the L here but it appears to be there.

I was a section that covered about 100 yards and we hunted it really slowly and carefully. Thanks for the reply.

If your 1864 indeed has the L it's a pretty uncommon coin with only about 5m minted. You can also tell looking at the bust. The 1864 L IH penny is very pointed.

Nice finds.

I need to ride around and try to find some sidewalk tear outs myself.
I've never hunted one but judging from what I've seen here, the really seem to produce some awesome finds fairly consistently.
