Hello All,

Well it's been a hot one here. We went out and dug in it, cause we couldn't stand ourselves. When the temps get to the mid 90s here, and the index into the 110s with no shade in the sugar cane rows, it's bad. The day just took it right out of us. We decided to start before first light, when it was in the upper 70s and felt like only 85. :-\ Targets were sparse, as we were finishing up an area where we had found a couple of good signs earlier. Normally on that type of hunt, one can't expect much, but often there is at least something good to recover from the fringe areas.

I picked up a brass cupboard key, musketball, pewter spoon handle, and some bits. Shanegalang dug a couple flat buttons including a really nice pewter one with a star on it.

Then I got a nice high tone, and popped out a silver.

I could tell that it was One Real sized, and so I started the camera rolling. The hunt video is here:

Turned out to be an 1815 One Real :headbang:

It was a great feeling to have an old silver in my pocket before 8am. That meant that the rest of the day's finds would be, as they say down here, "lagniappe." :)

But the other good finds were not to be found for me. Shanegalang got a really nice save with half of a good pre-CW spur. Then the heat got to us, and we called it a day. Here are some photos of our finds:

Stay cool out there, and Happy Hunting everyone!

Best Wishes,

Buck

Great job battling the heat fellas! Man that button looks like a real oldie. Cool to get a pewter with a design that you can still make out. Buck the real is in very nice condition. Great to get an uncut piece

I was telling Shane that there aren't too many pewter buttons with designs that I've ever seen posted except for military buttons. I think I've only dug one pewter in 22 years that had a design on it. In VA and KY, the weather was harsh on pewter though.

awesome reale, really sweet when you consider the amount of sweat it took to find it. it is hot and miserable here in Ark. but with all of the rain this year, the dew in the heavy grass makes for tough swinging. prefer the early morning hunts as well but the grass and weeds are growing so fast, had to stop because my legs were sopping wet and then the mosquitoes! went to spray and the can was empty! kids!

Enjoyed the video Will. That little yellow box has held more silver than most banks since Dman & I hunted with you, Molly, & Shane. Those 5s on the one Reales sure look like a "6" don't they? Another good hunt in unbearable heat. As I've said many times before, the Canefield Bandits deserve everything they find. HH, Q.

Isn't it funny how finding a 200 year old silver coin can make even the hottest day dam cool! :headbang:

Congrats to the Baking Bandits. Sweet sweet Spanish silver there Will.
I can't stand this hot humid weather. I was outside putting up a fence and trimming branches today up here in N. Indiana. Lost a lot of weight, but got wedgy #2 for the week. :laughing7:
I can't imagine how hot those cane fields are. You guys are diehards.
Have a great week,
DUHg

Thanks my friend. I really enjoy using that little box for things which need extra safe keeping. Only trouble is, that 2R from last hunt wouldn't fit in the box!

Got your email, by the way, and sounds good. Will check with DiggerGirl.
