Found this detecting in the woods yesterday. It's about 2 1/2" long with some kind of outdoor scene on one side. I couldn't find any other markings on it so I had it tested. Turned out to be 14k gold. Any comments on what it is or how old it is are appreciated.

It's not a bracelet, it's a chain to attach it to a chatelaine. There is no spring ring, it's a jump ring or a split ring.

The size is not correct for a match vesta. It would only hold 2 or 3 matches.

it is a needle case.

Looks like a sewing kit holder that they would use on a Chatelaine. Inside would be a needle and some thread for those "small emergencies" that would crop up from time to time on Victorian dresses.... Chatelaines were the women's "utility" belt of the Victorian era. They could be very simple to the ornate.........It would consist of a main "broach " or barrette that would pin to the dress. Off of this would hang chains that would contain any number of things from perfumers to a small needle case, to ivory cards to write notes on, to thimbles.......and the list goes on.....Here's a pic of what they might have looked like. The more wealth you had the more chains it would have ........http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...ct=rc&uact=3&dur=2509&page=2&start=29&ndsp=35

This item looks similar to one my Grand Mother had, but not as detailed, it pinned to her coat and was used to hold the stem of a flower, she would wrap a small piece of paper towel around the stem and wet it, it kept her rose bud damp through out the evening when she dressed up fancy, hope this bit of info helps?
I remember this well as a kid growing up.
