Wow. I finally found one of my bucket list Civil War relics, but I would have never expected to find this one. From the research I've done, it seems this is a pretty darn rare buckle/plate. It has N. O. on the bottom signifying New Orleans. If anyone knows anything about this one, please let me know. It's for sure a buckle with the Louisiana State Seal used by the 5th Washington Artillery Unit, which I believe is the oldest standing artillery unit in America to this day.

I would put that sob in a safe deposit box and remove it only when I would have to eat dirt. I would hold on to it like a man does his wife, on honeymoon night.
